Brand new Mailchimp Changes - June and July 2025
As a Mailchimp Pro Partner, every month I get an update on all the latest enhancements and what’s on the horizon. Here’s an overview of the most recent ones that I think are worth knowing about.
FYI - these largely apply to Mailchimp’s New Builder - if you’re still using Classic you won’t see them. And this is your reminder to start migrating across to it…
1. Handy info tabs for your content blocks
This a new tweak that is gradually being rolled out across accounts - I’m not seeing it for every client at the moment. The new tab consists of three parts:
The block type - in the example below clearly a Text block. Not sure how useful these labels are in that regard as it’s pretty obvious!
Visibility - now this is REALLY useful. There’s a function in Mailchimp for Standard and Premium account users where you can set the visibility of a specific block so that it only shows for certain contacts who have e.g. a specific tag or data value (a bit like segmentation) - it’s also known as “dynamic content”. Until this tab it wasn’t at all obvious if you had dynamic visibility within in an email. Now these little people will show if you do. I’ll talk about dynamic content more soon in another email so be sure to subscribe.
Drag “dots” (I don’t know what else to call them) - basically click on the little grid of dots and you can drag the block around. Also not sure it’s that useful as it’s always been intuitive anyway.
2. Sidebar layout
Another change that is gradually being rolled out across all accounts - your campaign sidebar layout is looking a bit different and now all in one place rather than having to switch around between the Content and Layouts tabs at the top. The most commonly used content blocks and column layouts are all in one place.
I’m not sure how useful this change is really - whilst the Layouts tab was easily missed, the Show More button is just as easily missed, but this is just something to be aware of in case you’re wondering where block types have gone.
3. Customer Journeys and Automations are now called Flows. Except when they aren’t.
First “Automations” was changed to “Customer Journeys”. And now they’re mostly called “Flows”. And “Automations”. And I’ve seen the odd legacy mention of “Customer Journeys” here and there, but I expect Mailchimp will deal with that in due course.
The term Flows makes more sense than Customer Journeys as not all automations are for external comms with customer and prospects - they can also be used for administrative functions like aligning your data to keep it tidy. So this makes sense and gets a thumbs up from me.
4. The Forms menu section has changed and new Pop-Ups are “it”
Since the introduction of Mailchimp’s powerful new Pop-Up forms, the side-bar Forms section now contains two parts. The default takes you to the Pop-ups dashboard - your list of new-style pop-ups and performance reports etc.
Everything else that you used to see there is now in Other forms - e.g. old-style pop-ups, embed forms, contact forms, the form builder etc.
Not sure of the logic of this but there we go…
Speaking of forms, if you are still using Mailchimp’s old-style pop-ups, you need to migrate across to the new version as they are no longer being supported and will stop functioning. Initially we had been told by Mailchimp that they’d disappear in June but they still seem to be popping up because so many accounts have not replaced them, so it looks like this grace period has been extended for a little longer.
5. Required fields in the new pop-up builder
This one is really bugging me…
At present, the only way you can make a field required (i.e. the form can’t be submitted without it being completed) in the new pop-up builder is by setting it as required in your overall form settings elsewhere in Mailchimp so that it applies account-wide.
There’s no way of setting it as required within the pop-up form’s settings in isolation.
This really irritates me as it can cause major issues. For example, if you have another form out there in the ether that doesn’t have that particular form field in it, but you’ve had to set it as required so that it is in the pop-up, the submission from the other form will fail and not be accepted at all by Mailchimp because it’s not met the “required requirements”.
I’ve had various convos with Mailchimp’s premium customer support about this and have raised it as a development need, so it’s “on their list”.
